Bill Atkin

Uncle Billy’s Retreat a family operated business was founded in 1995 by Bill Atkin. Sadly, Bill passed away on 26th April, 2017. He was one of the first people in New England to successfully incorporate an aquaculture operation as part of a rural concern. With the help of their family, Sue, his wife will continue to run the Retreat.

Lake Yoolimba

The Fishery consists of several dams, with Lake Yoolimba being “The Jewell in the Crown”. This dam was built to irrigate the land in dry times, and covers 15 acres. It is spring fed and the pristine water is the perfect environment for trout.

The Lodge Dam

The Lodge, a self contained double brick building and the two rustic cabins at Lake Yoolimba, are ideal for guests to escape their busy lives and get away, to relax, enjoy comfortable accommodation and catch a trout. The peacefulness and privacy that Uncle Billy’s offers, attracts people from all over Australia.

Blue-billed duck

The bird life at Yoolimba is amazing, with a wide variety of water birds, wrens, parrots, just to name a few, that habitat our water and land. Guests may be lucky enough to see Wedge-Tailed Eagles.

Beef cattle

Uncle Billy’s sits just below the highest point of the Ben Lomond Range at Approximately 1100 mtrs above sea level and is situated between Armidale, Inverell and Glen Innes, about an hours drive to each town. Guyra, our closest town (half an hours drive) a major beef cattle, fat lamb and wool growing area and is also home of “Blush Tomatoes”, a very large Glass House operation.
